WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?
Cornwall. I just love being there, especially on the rugged northern coast from Port Isaac to Land’s End. I think it is beautiful even in the rain.
I used to go as a boy with my mum and brother when my father was stationed there in the RAF and vividly remember surfing there when I was eight years old. It was such an adventure.
Nowadays, I love being in the fresh air and fishing. A friend has a boat and we go trawling at midnight. I love walking my dogs on the cliffs too.
My favourite beaches are Porthcothan, Trebetherick and Treyarnon and I love eating fish and chips on Constantine Bay.

a woman tried to charge $120 for four cans of Coke and four bottles of water on room service
AND YOUR WORST?
Disneyworld in Florida. We stayed in a resort hotel. The room was filthy and a woman tried to charge $120 for four cans of Coke and four bottles of water on room service.
You could have breakfast with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and that was $300 for six of us.
Obviously, the kids were little and they loved it.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY SOUVENIR?
I bought an olive-wood chopping board on our honeymoon – to Ravello on the Amalfi Coast in Italy – that I still use every day. I like functional things and olive-wood chopping boards are beautiful and smell lovely.
BEST HOLIDAY READ?
I don’t read novels, I like factual cooking books such as Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky, or The End Of The Line by Charles Clover about cod fishing. Sad and dull, I know.
For a hefty price you can have breakfast with Mickey Mouse at Disney World
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?
On the first day I like to laze around but then I get bored so I’ll go for walks or find a nice place for coffee.
Fern doesn’t get as bored as I do. She likes to relax and read. We like nice meals so I will often research places to eat.
Last year, for a friend’s 50th birthday, we drove across seven states in America – from North Carolina to Texas – eating fried chicken and barbecue in some great restaurants.
The chef and football fan says visiting the Maracanã Stadium in Rio was great
WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?
Brazil. I filmed there for This Morning and loved the beaches and people. I’m a football fan, so visiting the Maracanã Stadium in Rio was great. I remember watching Pelé play there on TV.
I’ve been to 25 countries with This Morning. You get a little taste of each, just enough to whet your appetite. I’d also like to return to Cambodia and Singapore too.
I might be going back to America to do a film for This Morning on the World Barbecue Championships.
